Daily Upper Body Reset

So often, we move through daily life with the upper back rounding forward or the head drifting in front of the body, whether at a computer, in the car, standing, or seated.

Practice: Upper Body Awareness for Shoulders and Neck

Feel like you’re doing one or both? Try this. Begin by sitting or standing. Let your arms relax by your sides. Bring your awareness to the roof of your mouth. Using this as a reference point, gently guide the upper palate back until your head feels more supported on your neck, allowing your ears to stack over your shoulders to the best of your body’s ability.

From here, externally rotate your arms until you feel your shoulder blades gently glide toward one another on your back. Then allow your forearms to relax.

Breathe here for 5 to 8 cycles, beginning with diaphragmatic breathing and gradually allowing the breath to deepen, without strain.

Why this matters

Many of us move through our day with the head drifting forward and the upper back rounding, especially while sitting, driving, or working at a computer. This practice brings awareness to how the head, neck, and shoulders relate to one another, helping to reduce unnecessary tension and support more easeful alignment.
