The Perfect Article
The “perfect” article isn’t about perfection at all — it’s about clarity, heart, and connection. When you sit down to write, imagine you’re having a thoughtful conversation with someone who is curious about holistic living. They want practical wisdom, but also a glimpse of the passion that fuels your work.
A strong article does three things:
- Educates – Share knowledge in a way that feels accessible and actionable.
- Engages – Invite readers into your world with stories, examples, or gentle guidance.
- Empowers – Leave them with something they can try, reflect on, or carry into their own journey.
Think of your article as a bridge: it connects your expertise with the reader’s everyday experience. That’s what makes it perfect.
Set Yourself Apart.
What makes your contribution unique isn’t just your training or techniques — it’s your perspective. Readers can find endless information online, but what they won’t find anywhere else is your story, your way of working, your lived wisdom.
A few ways to stand out:
- Share a personal anecdote that shaped your approach.
- Highlight how your practice connects to seasonal rhythms, cultural traditions, or community needs.
- Offer insights you wish more people knew — the “hidden gems” of your field.
Authenticity is magnetic. When you write with your own voice, grounded in both knowledge and experience, you naturally set yourself apart
Share Your Wisdom – Inspire the Community.
Writing for the Greensboro Holistic Collective blog is more than just creating content — it’s a way to connect, educate, and establish your voice in the holistic space. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or just beginning to share your work publicly, your insights matter.
So, how do you write a blog post that’s engaging and thoughtful and positions you as a trusted authority?
Let’s break it down — step by step.
Start With What You Know — and What Lights You Up
You don’t need to overthink your topic. Start with something you’re already passionate about — the things you naturally share with clients, friends, or your community.
Here are a few ideas –
- A healing practice you wish more people understood
- A gentle ritual or self-care tip for the current season
- A client question you answer often (anonymously, of course)
- A moment that shifted your perspective and how it can help others
Tip – If it’s something you care deeply about, your reader will feel that.
Use Clear Structure — and Heading Tags (H1, H2, H3)
Good structure makes your post easier to read — and easier for Google to find. That’s where headings come in.
What Are Heading Tags?
- H1: The title of your post (only one per article)
- H2: Main section headings (like “Start With What You Know”)
- H3: Sub-points within a section
These aren’t just about style — they tell search engines what your content is about and help readers scan quickly.
Example Layout:
<h1>5 Herbal Allies for Better Sleep</h1>
<h2>Why Sleep Support Matters</h2>
<p>Brief paragraph about sleep struggles and how natural remedies help.</p>
<h2>Top 5 Herbs to Try</h2>
<h3>1. Chamomile</h3>
<p>Gentle nervine, calming effect, perfect before bed.</p>
<h3>2. Passionflower</h3>
<p>Especially useful for a busy mind that won’t quiet down at night.</p>
…and so on
Using this format improves readability, SEO, and overall professional polish. Word processors have a built-in function to add the tags easily. In MS Word, go to Home > Styles, simply highlight the text and select the heading. Remember, only one H1 per article. Exceeding this limit may cause search engines to disregard or confuse them, and that means your article may not be present when someone is searching on the topic of your article.
Aim for 800–1,200 Words
That sweet spot gives you enough room to be helpful without overwhelming your reader.
- Shorter than 600 words? It may not give enough context.
- Over 1,500? Consider breaking it into two parts.
If you’re unsure, write what feels natural — we can help with light editing.
Add Visuals to Make It Memorable
A strong image grabs attention before a single word is read.
- Include 1–2 high-quality horizontal images
- Size: 1080 px wide (ideal for blog content)
- Use Canva, Squoosh, or TinyPNG to resize and compress before uploading
Think: images of your tools, workspace, nature, seasonal elements — or create a simple branded graphic.
Expert-Level Tips for a Polished Post
- Write like you talk — your authentic voice builds trust
- Use short paragraphs and bullet points for easy reading
- Avoid jargon unless you define it
- Link to helpful resources (including your own services or previous blog posts!)
- Proofread or read it out loud to catch awkward phrasing
Include a Contributor Bio + Photo
At the end of every post, we feature our contributors.
Please include:
- A 2–3 sentence bio (what you do, who you serve, what lights you up)
- A profile image (400 x 400 px preferred)
- A link to your website or preferred contact point
Final Submission Checklist
Before hitting “submit,” ask yourself:
- Is my article clear, helpful, and personal?
- Have I used H2 and H3 headings to organize the content?
- Is my word count in the 800–1,200 range?
- Did I include at least one image (compressed for web)?
- Have I added a bio and profile photo?
