Creating Opportunity, Connection, and Healing for Our Veterans
At The Heroes Center in High Point, North Carolina, gratitude is only the beginning. This nonprofit is dedicated to ensuring that every veteran has not only appreciation for their service but also the resources, support, and community they need to thrive in civilian life.
Founded on the belief that no one who has served should have to walk their next steps alone, The Heroes Center provides a compassionate bridge for veterans as they transition from military to civilian life—offering practical tools, purpose-driven programs, and a sense of belonging.
Programs That Transform Lives
Operation Next Step: veteran healing programs
This transitional program helps veterans reintegrate successfully into civilian life. From short-term housing and career counseling to life-skills training, Operation Next Step gives veterans the structure and support to build independence and confidence.
Vet 2 Vet: Recreational Fishing Therapy
Few things heal like nature and camaraderie. The Vet 2 Vet program provides fishing activities for veterans, facilitating opportunities for relaxation and interaction through shared outdoor experiences.
In an exciting development, The Heroes Center will soon be the first organization in North Carolina to introduce wheelchair-accessible pontoon boats, ensuring that veterans of all abilities can participate in these healing excursions. This initiative represents the organization’s deep commitment to inclusion and accessibility—creating outdoor experiences that are truly open to all.
Community Collaboration
Through partnerships with local organizations like the Elks Lodge, The Heroes Center supports veterans with job placement, welcome-home kits, and monthly coffee gatherings. These efforts build the connections and confidence that help veterans feel at home again.
Upcoming: Yoga for Veterans Initiative
Recognizing the benefits of mindfulness and gentle movement, The Heroes Center is planning to launch a Veterans Yoga Program—but needs community support. They are currently seeking space that can accommodate about 20 participants for weekly yoga and meditation sessions. This new initiative will provide a peaceful, restorative environment to help veterans manage stress, build flexibility, and reconnect with their bodies and breath.
How You Can Help
The Heroes Center’s work is made possible through the generosity of individuals, businesses, and community partners who believe in giving back to those who’ve given so much. Donations of funds, furniture in good repair, working household appliances, and volunteer time directly support housing assistance, program expansion, and inclusive recreation, like the new wheelchair-accessible boats.
The Heroes Center is seeking space to support a monthly yoga class. Â The space needs to be large enough to accommodate ~ 20 people and the instructor. If you have space, please reach out to Tyler Dixon, Executive Director, at 336 884-4376 or email dixon@heroescenter.org.
Whether you’re a business looking to partner, a community member wanting to volunteer, or an individual moved to contribute, your support fuels transformation. Every dollar brings a veteran one step closer to stability, healing, and hope.
