Jessica Lee, DC had been a chiropractor for 13 years before discovering Spinal Energetics™, a mind/body energy healing modality. After training in the technique, she opened Wild Wellness Within in Winston-Salem.

Q: As a chiropractor in an established practice, what drew you to Spinal Energetics?

I found out about a few chiropractors who were doing energy work and followed them online. Through them I found SE. I was intrigued by the way the body can release old stories or patterns through energy work. I like that I can feel different after a session but don’t always know exactly what story I’m letting go of; I just know my body responded and I’m a different version of myself than when I got on the table.

Six months later I took the course. I continue my chiropractic work in a different practice.

Q: What makes this modality different from chiropractic?

Spinal Energetics is a gentle healing approach that helps you regulate your nervous system. Chiropractic is very physical, which I enjoy. But on an energetic level, things can get “stuck” in the body, and I didn’t feel I could totally address that through chiropractic alone.

You’re one of only a handful of SE professionals in the state, and the only one in the Piedmont Triad. What is its origin?

This gentle, integrative healing modality was created by an Australian chiropractor, Dr. Sarah Jane Perri, in 2022, and is now taught around the world. It weaves together modern understanding of the nervous system—including polyvagal theory, somatic awareness, and trauma response—with ancient Eastern perspectives that see the body as an intelligent, self-healing system.

How does it work?

Through light touch and presence, energy work, and music and sound, I work with the patient’s nervous system to help create a safe space for the body to naturally unwind and release stored tension and stress patterns that have been held in their system.

It’s a collaboration: I’m interacting with your spine, nervous system, and energetic field to harness your own innate wisdom to create healing.

Your body already knows how to heal itself; this work simply provides the support and safety for that wisdom to emerge. This allows your nervous system to recalibrate and find its natural state of flow and ease.

Q: What does a session look like, and how long does it take?

A session can last from 30 to 60 minutes, and is designed to help release conscious or unconscious tension patterns that you’re holding on to. Using light touch or no contact at all, I help you get into your body, using music and sounds to help guide the energy.

We’re not “working” the whole time; there is time to allow the body to sit and integrate through resting periods. This is a different healing modality from chiropractic that resonates really well with some people.

It’s not about forcing change, but rather witnessing and supporting your body’s own incredible intelligence as it unwinds what no longer serves you.

Spinal Energetics is non-invasive, non-verbal, and deeply adaptive. It can stand alone as a restorative practice or work beautifully alongside therapy, bodywork, or medical care—especially when words can’t quite reach what the body is ready to release.

Q: What can someone expect afterward?

Every person is different in the way their body might respond. But patients mention improvements in back pain, bowel movements, and heart rate variability (HRV); they feel lighter and less anxious.

Most people benefit from two to three sessions to really experience SE. They may not get as much benefit from the first session because they don’t understand it. But as they learn to regulate their nervous system, they discover that they’re not as triggered in situations that used to challenge them.

Q: Are there people who shouldn’t try Spinal Energetics?

Yes. SE sessions are designed to help you connect deeply with your body, but to ensure a safe and supportive experience, there are a few health-related guidelines to keep in mind. Some conditions may make these sessions unsuitable, including:
• The first and final trimester of pregnancy, or during six months postpartum
• Children under 12
• Elderly persons over the age of 75
• Diagnosed Severe PTSD
• Severe mental health conditions (bipolar, schizophrenia, psychosis)
• Currently taking heavy medication that alters brain chemistry (anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, antipsychotic)
• Recent physical injuries, fractures and/or surgeries
• Epilepsy
• History or diagnosis of aneurysms

This is not a complete list. Your safety and well-being are important, so please contact me if you have questions.

Q: When did you join Greensboro Holistic Collective and why?

I joined about six months ago to be part of a collective that is more holistic in their approach. I love that there are a whole bunch of practitioners that do various techniques and modalities that are not necessarily considered mainstream, but that can definitely help somebody’s health and longevity.

See Dr. Lee’s website for more.
